Build organizational resilience to adverse events, business disruptions and emergencies.

  • Lead district-wide business continuity, disaster recovery and emergency management programs.
  • Coordinate district's response to critical incidents and emergencies to include on-scene operational support.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive emergency management and business continuity plans and procedures.
  • Develop and provide standardized emergency preparedness training programs.
  • Plan, coordinate and deliver emergency preparedness drills and exercises.
  • Manage the district's Emergency Coordination Center (ECC).
  • Provide direct support to schools ensuring readiness and resilience.
  • Collaborate with emergency management and public safety partners.

  • Ensuring our schools and administrative sites are prepared to respond to incidents or emergencies is a top priority for the Office of Emergency Management (OEM) that aligns with the OCPS strategic objective of creating a Positive Climate and Safe environment. To encourage a culture of preparedness, OEM is introducing an awards program to recognize OCPS employees that promotes a culture of emergency preparedness. Any OCPS employee or group of employees who demonstrates actions that support the four (4) mission areas of emergency management can be recognized.

  • Mitigation

    The mitigation category recognizes those who have demonstrated actions to reduce loss of life and property by lessening the impact of disasters on district property and personnel. Mitigation capabilities include, but are not limited to, school community-wide risk reduction projects; efforts to improve the resilience of critical infrastructure and key resource lifelines; risk reduction for specific vulnerabilities from natural hazards or acts of violence; and initiatives to reduce future risks after a disaster has occurred.

    Prevention

    The prevention category recognizes those who have demonstrated actions to avoid, secure, prevent, or stop a threat or actual act of violence to personnel, students, or destruction to district property.

    Response

    The response category recognizes those who have demonstrated actions to save or protect lives, property, and the environment during or immediately after an incident.

    Recovery

    The recovery category recognizes those who have demonstrated actions to efficiently and effectively recover from an incident. Recovery capabilities include, but are not limited to: rebuilding infrastructure systems; providing adequate interim and long-term assistance to survivors; restoring health, social, and community services; and restoring district natural and cultural resources.
