Environmental Compliance and Sustainability has developed and conducts various training courses to help OCPS staff understand and comply with Federal, State, and Local environmental regulatory programs.
Asbestos Training
- Two hour asbestos awareness training for employees who may work around asbestos containing materials.
- Employees may include, but are not limited to:
- Custodial staff
- Maintenance staff
- Training is held at multiple work locations.
- Training is required to be documented a minimum of one time.
Biomedical Waste Training
- The Biomedical Waste training is available online through the Canvas.
- The training is required to be completed annually by all staff who may come in contact with biomedical waste, such as, blood and syringes.
- The training is available continuously through Canvas and may be completed at staff’s own pace.
- Refer to Canvas to register for the course.
Science Laboratory Chemical Training
- The Science Laboratory Chemical training is available online through the Canvas.
- The training is required to be completed prior to December 21st.
- Staff involved with the use, handling, and storage of school science laboratory chemicals are required to complete the training. Examples of staff members within the school who may be involved in the training include:
- High School science teachers
- Middle School science teachers
- Elementary School intermediate science teachers
- Vocational teachers
- Custodians
- The training is available through Canvas and may be completed at staff’s own pace.

Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT) Training and Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) Training
Annual training is provided for Facilities Operations and Maintenance, Transportation, and OCPS Security staff.
